José Ralat is not just a taco journalist, he is the taco journalist. José is the official taco editor of Texas Monthly and the author of the recently released book American Tacos: A History and Guide. The book was originally supposed to be released on April 15th, so I worked with José to make him a Fiesta Medal to celebrate the occasion!

The Taco Trail Fiesta Medal 2020 features an interstate logo designed by M. Brady Clark that is evocative of the distance that José goes to taste tacos and tell the story behind them. José swapped out the pink colors of his logo for purple, which is the color of epilepsy awareness. Through 2020, $1 from every medal sold was donated to the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas. As someone who has lived with epilepsy for more than 30 years and as a lover of San Antonio, José wanted to honor the hardworking people supporting epilepsy research in the South Texas area. (During the pandemic, we donated an additional $2.50/medal to the Food Bank in 2020!)
