Denise Ojeda has created a beautiful medal that pays tribute to a Southside church and historical site that has been important to her growing up and beyond. The Mission Concepción Parrots Fiesta Medal features the Spanish mission in the background and two parakeets in the foreground kind of snuggling together. Why the parakeets? Turns out that there is a feral colony of them on the Southside (they are also found in cities throughout Texas) and you can see flashes of green as you visit the mission. And ironically enough, the variety is the "Monk Parakeet"—fitting resident indeed for the mission.

$1 from every sale through 2020 was donated to the local Family Violence Prevention Services charity. Family violence has become a major problem in San Antonio with the municipal government launching a campaign to provide awareness and prevent it. Denise trusts this organization's role in our community and wants the medal to benefit their cause.
